WATCH THE DRILLS HERE

The Why:
The purpose of these skills are to work on and understand driving angles and proper spacing to help create the angles.

  • Set up 3 cones in a triangle with the top cone on the 3 point line. Go through this series of moves:

    • Crossover at the first cone to the middle, then make another cross at the second cone, then finish a lay-up at the rim. Make 5 lay-ups.

    • Crossover to the middle and shoot at 10 foot jump shot in the middle. Make 5 jump shots.

    • Repeat from each wing and the top.

    • Repeat for 3 rounds.

  • The parent or coach starts with the ball and the athlete runs to space to the coroner on the drive to focus on catching the ball (left right if right handed or right left if left handed), then have the 3 cones set up in the triangle to show the angles to create. Go through this series:

    • Drive the ball baseline to a lay-up. Make 5 lay-ups.

    • Drive the ball to the middle for a 10 foot jump shot. Make 5 jump shots.

    • Space to 10-15 feet and then catch and shoot off the pass. Make 10 shots.

    • Repeat in the opposite corner.

Down Screen Actions

The Why: The purpose of these skills is to understand how to set a good screen and be able to read the defense to know whether to curl, pop, or flair. Additionally, the goal is to learn what the screener should do depending on the cutter – whether to flash acrss to the ball if the cutter pops, pop up if the cutter curls, or slip the screen if the help over plays.

  • Set up a chair or cones above the block close to the short corner. Have a passer on the opposite wing.

    • Curl the screen to the middle. Finish 5 lay-ups.

    • Straight cut off the screen toward the middle and elbow, then catch and shoot from 10-15 feet. Shoot 10 shots.

    • Flair the screen, go up to the screener one step above, then pop to the short corner for a 10-15 foot jump shot. Shoot 10 shots total.

The Why: The purpose of these skills is to learn how to post up correctly, passing angles to feed the post, and how to relocate after passing to give the post space to work. Additionally, the goal is to work on post moves to score or pass to the cutter to score.

  • Post move with your back to the basket series. Spin the ball out and catch on two feet or with your outside foot.

    • Drop step baseline – on one dribble, square your shoulders to the glass and finish the lay-up. 5 each side.

    • Drop step middle into a hook shot – taking a dribble to the middle, stepping with your inside foot into the hook. 5 each side.

    • Drop step middle, then step through into an up and under back to the baseline and finish off the glass. 5 each side.
